I love that moment when my children's eyes start to flutter alseep. I rarely see that moment with the Princess because she does not like to be rocked or cuddled any longer. She is much to big for that and wants to be put in her bed and left alone. However, Bubby is my cuddler at night. He wants to be read to and whispered to. For about the past two weeks, he has been falling asleep as I read a Dr. Suess book in a soft methodic voice. I sneak glances at him as I read and slowly see him fading and then that moment happens. The eyes flutter once, twice, and then they close for the night. Then I sneak out of the room quietly like I am sure so many Moms before me have done...praying the whole time I don't trip on something and cause a ruckus!
Sometimes bedtime doesn't go so great at our house though. Those night are frustrating and when I hear him yell one more time "Mommmmmm...where are you?" after he has been laying in bed for an hour, I usually let out a large sigh. Tonight he yelled, I sighed, and my wise husband said "You know, in 20 years you will long to hear that yell." I laughed because he is indeed right and then I teared up because he is indeed right. This moment, whether sleepy or not, is a moment to cherish.
