Mimi

So today is my Mother-in-law's birthday. I have been around the Garner family for nearly 13 years and Ann accepted me from the begining. I think it probably had something to do with the fact that she had been surrounded by males in her house for so long that she needed some girl power, but either way we have always gotten along. We have long meaningful talks and I really do miss her when they are gone...and it isn't because I need a babysitter (although that is a nice perk! LOL)

Unlike my Mom, Phil's Mom was ready to be a grandma about the time we were married. Her older son didn't marry until after Phil and I did and to be perfectly honest she was getting a little impatient! Getting Bubby here was a long and drawn out process and I remember being dissappointed for her every month as much as I was for us! When we finally found out that Bubby was on his way, she was beyond thrilled. She went to a sonogram with me and just was amazed to see his tiny feet and hands. I will never forget the tears streaming down her face as she walked into the room to meet him for the first time. She literally had eyes only for him.

Ann wanted to be called Grammy, in fact she went so far as to have her liscense plate changed to that. However, that first grandchild, Bubby, changed the name to Mimi and it has stuck. Bubby could live at Mimi's house. He has his own bed (although he likes to sleep with her), his own bike, his own clothes...and he asked her this week if it was his house!

The Princess and Bubby are so blessed to have a Mimi that loves them and drops everything for them. She comes to their rescue and spoils them rotten. She makes them feel loved and protected. She tells me that she could have never imagined that being a grandparent could be so wonderful. I could never have imagined having such wonderful grandparent's for my children. Happy Birthday Ann! You are a blessing in my life.
